frequently asked questions
Who needs branding portraits?
Anyone who is the face of their business. Entrepreneurs, consultants, coaches, speakers, authors, creatives, executives, and corporate teams who are refreshing or rebranding.
If your clients see your face before they meet you on your website, LinkedIn, or in the press, then brand photography belongs in your marketing.
What is brand photography?
Brand photography is a planned set of professional images that covers every professional context where your business needs to show up well.
A session typically includes:
- headshots
- lifestyle portraits
- behind-the-scenes images
- environmental portraits
- detail and product shots
- team photos
The mix is determined during your consult based on how your business communicates and where the images will be used. Every session is planned in advance so the final images align with your brand standards.
What are the different types of branding portraits?
A branding session is designed to give you a complete set of images that covers every professional context where you need to show up well.
Most sessions include a mix of the following:
- Professional headshots — clean portraits for LinkedIn, your website, press features, and speaking engagements
- Lifestyle portraits — you working, meeting with clients, or operating in your professional environment
- Environmental portraits — you in a location that reflects your business, whether an office, studio, or on location
- Behind-the-scenes images — process shots that show how you work and build credibility with your audience
- Detail and product shots — branded items, tools, or products that round out your visual library
- Team photos — group and individual shots if your brand includes a team
Every session is planned before the camera comes out, so the final images cover the use cases that matter most to your business.
What's the difference between personal branding and corporate branding portraits?
Personal branding portraits are for professionals who are the face of their own brand. Consultants, coaches, creatives, and entrepreneurs. The focus is on representing your individual identity and working style in a way that builds credibility with your audience.
Corporate branding portraits are for companies, including leadership teams, departments, and organizations that need a consistent visual standard across their website, press materials, and marketing. The goal is cohesion and professionalism at the organizational level.
Both require planning. The difference is whether the brand center is a person or a company.
Do you work with specific industries like attorneys, realtors, executives?
Yes. Most industries have specific visual requirements. A law firm needs images that project credibility without looking identical to every other firm in the market. A realtor needs approachability and local presence. An executive needs authority and accessibility in the same frame.
Every session is planned around what your specific clients need to see before they make a decision. That conversation happens in the consult, before the camera comes out.
Where are brand photos typically used?
Across your website and landing pages, LinkedIn and social media profiles, email marketing, press kits, speaking engagement materials, pitch decks, ad campaigns, and print collateral. If your business needs to present itself professionally anywhere, that's where brand photography belongs.
How much does a branding session cost?
Sessions are custom-quoted based on scope. We offer custom packages starting at $695. Contact us to discuss your project and we'll provide a clear quote before anything is confirmed.
How should I prepare for my session?
Start by thinking about where these images will be used and what you want them to communicate. That context should drive your wardrobe and location decisions.
Bring two to three outfit options. If you're unsure, bring your favorites and we'll decide together before the session starts. Make sure everything is pressed and wrinkle-free.
Get a full night of rest beforehand, stay hydrated, and arrive with your outfits ready to go.
What’s the difference between a studio session and an environmental session?
A studio session is photographed indoors in a controlled environment. Lighting is fully managed, there are no outdoor variables, and the background is clean and consistent.
An environmental session is photographed on location, ,at your office, outdoors, or in a space that reflects your brand. We bring a mobile lighting setup so the final images are professionally lit regardless of the setting.
Both options produce polished results. The right choice depends on your brand and how the images will be used.
What if I hate getting my photo taken?
This is the most common thing we hear before a session, and it almost never reflects the outcome. The session is guided from start to finish. Posing, expression, body language, and timing are all directed. Most clients are surprised by how manageable the process is and how different the results look from photos they've taken before.
How do I pose for branding portraits?
You don't need to figure that out. Posing and expression are guided throughout the entire session. We'll cover what works for your industry, your body language, and the context these images will be used in. Your job is to show up. Direction is included.
How many outfit changes can I bring?
Two to three outfits are standard for most sessions. Make sure everything is pressed and ready before you arrive.
Can I see photos during our session?
Yes. We typically review images together at the start of the session so you can see what's being captured and feel confident in the direction before we continue.
Will you retouch my images?
Retouching is applied to the images you purchase. The goal is polished and professional and not processed or artificial. Skin texture is preserved, adjustments are calibrated to look natural, and the final images are delivered in a format ready for professional use.
Do you offer hair and makeup services?
Yes, and it's worth considering. When you feel prepared and confident walking in, that shows in the images. We can arrange a makeup artist and hairstylist at an additional cost, or you're welcome to use your own.
Do you have a studio?
Yes. That said, most clients prefer an environmental or on-location session. If a studio setting fits your brand, we have dedicated studio time available and can arrange it easily.
How long until I receive my photos?
Standard delivery is one to three business days. Rush 24-hour delivery is available at an additional fee.
How are photos delivered?
Through a private online gallery. You review your images, select your favorites, and they're delivered as digital downloads in several export formats ready for immediate professional use.
Do you only photograph branding portraits??
No. Christopher Todd Studios is a full-service photography studio. In addition to branding, we offer corporate headshots, group and team headshots, corporate event photography, and select personal services including family portraits and milestone events.
